Business Identity Theft Tips
Use our business identity theft tips to protect your business from ID theft. Remember that your businesses credit is just as, if not more, tempting to identity thieves as your personal credit. Protecting the identity of your business should be a top priority if it isn't already!
Business owners should do the following to prevent the theft of their businesses identity:
- Lock your office's filing cabinets. If they don't have locks, get new filing cabinets that can be locked to secure your businesses important documents.
- Keep sensitive records under lock and key. Your best bet is to have locked filing cabinets in a locked room. Preventing unauthorized access to important documents should be a top priority.
- Password protect your businesses computers. If you or an employee leaves a computer unattended, it should go into screensaver mode with password protection within 5 minutes or less of inactivity.
- Limit access to your businesses sensitive information. Only grant access to those that need it.
- Run background checks as a part of your businesses hiring process. If someone has a criminal history involving fraud you don't want them in your organization.
Consider these tips a starting point. You should also watch your credit card statements carefully. Be on the lookout for unusual charges. Take every precaution for the identity of your businesses you do for your own.
Identity thieves want any identity to plunder be it you, your child or your business.
