Common Medicaid Scams
Medicaid fraud is common and it takes many forms. If you know what to be on the lookout for, you can avoid being defraud and taken advantage of by a Medicaid scam.
Medicaid Scam Warning Signs:
- Cash payments for Medicaid numbers.
- Patients in group settings all receive the same medical service on the same day.
- Patients in group settings all receive medical equipment of the same type.
- Your medical summary includes services and charges you either didn't need or didn't receive.
Common Forms of Medicaid Fraud
- Invoices sent for patients that do not exist and never received care.
- Invoices sent for unrendered medical services.
- Invoices sent for undelivered medical goods or equipment.
- Re-used or older supplies are billed as new.
- Charging for more hours than they are in a day.
- Unnecessary tests are performed.
- Paying kickbacks for medical referrals, goods, and services.
- Billing Medicaid for expenses unrelated to a patient's care.
- Overcharging Medicaid for medical services and equipment.
- Double-billing Medicaid for medical services and equipment.
- Identity theft or submitting phony personal information.
- Hiding ownership in a related business.
